Man charged following series of dangerous incidents across Comox Valley

Police say a spree of dangerous and violent incidents in the Comox Valley this week has led to two arrests and a laundry list of charges for one man. 

The first incident happened around 5:00 p.m. of the 1400-block of Krueger Road in Merville, when a red pickup truck had been involved in a hit-and-run. 

The victim reported the truck driving erratically and when they approached the vehicle, they were struck in the hand and knocked to the ground. 

Then around an hour later, a report was submitted to the Comox Valley RCMP that a man had been threatened with a firearm on the 100-block of Centennial Drive in Courtenay. 

The suspect had been associated to the previous incidents red pickup truck, which was quickly located by police but failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. 

The truck was then located shortly after on Kimorley Road in Comox, police were able to stop the vehicle and arrest a male driver and a female passenger. 

Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP said the truck had been driven dangerously throughout the community for some time.” 

“We are very fortunate that nobody was more seriously injured or killed.” 

Further investigations linked the suspect to two additional hit-and-run collisions on the 100-block of Centennial Drive in Courtenay on July 31. 

34-year-old James Snowden was arrested and is in custody pending his next court appearance. 

Snowden has been charged with: 

  • Pointing a firearm 
  • Assault with a weapon 
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order 
  • Uttering threats 
  • Impaired operation of a motor vehicle 
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance 
  • Flight from police 
  • Drive while disqualified  
  • Refuse to provide breath sample 

The female passenger who also arrested has been released without any charges. 

Anyone with information on the incidents or has surveillance footage is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP.
