The MP for Courtenay-Alberni is expressing his gratitude to all who helped with battling wildfires in his riding through the summer.
During Monday’s first sitting of the fall Parliament session in Ottawa, Gord Johns took time to thank career and volunteer firefighters who responded to the Wesley Ridge and Mount Underwood wildfires.
He also gave a shout out to First Nations, local governments, neighbours, church groups, service clubs and businesses who were able to support those displaced by wildfire activity.

“In the face of danger, we are strongest when we stand together,” Johns claimed in the House of Commons. “I ask all members to join me in expressing out deepest gratitude to the firefighters and to every person whose courage and compassion carried us through these increasingly frequent and devastating wildfires.
The two wildfires near Port Alberni prompted evacuations and left a smokey haze through much of the central island for several days, with the Wesley Ridge fire growing to over 500 hectares and over 35-hundred hectares for the Mount Underwood blaze.
Both fires are classified as under control by the BC Wildfire Service.
