Coroner investigates Mill Bay death

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man
who died after his vehicle went into the water off the Mill Bay ferry
ramp on Sept. 18th.

The coroner says he is 89 year old John William Barton, from the Victoria suburb of Saanich.

Barton was seen to drive his SUV along the ramp to the Mill Bay ferry
at a high rate of speed, at about 8:10 a.m. on Sept. 18, crash through a barrier, and go into the
water. The ferry was not at the dock at the time.

An RCMP Dive Team found Barton still in his vehicle in about 20
metres of water. He was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this death.
