Powell River RCMP locate human remains

Powell River RCMP have said that at around 7:00 PM last night, officers located human remains near the Townsite area of Powell River.

At this time, the remains haven’t been identified and the BC Coroners Service has joined in on the investigation. The cause of death for the individual has not been released.

Also assisting in the investigation is the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Officials say the deployment of the VIIMCU is a common practice in cases where the identity and cause of death are not apparent right away.

RCMP have said that there is no indication that the discovery causes a risk to public safety in the area.

Powell RCMP have been contacted by Goat News, but could not offer any further information as the investigation is in its beginning stages.
