East Courtenay fire hall design reaches 70 per cent completion milestone

Courtenay’s new fire hall is nearing completion of its final design.

The City of Courtenay said the East Courtenay Fire Hall design is now 70 per cent complete and construction is expected to begin this summer.

The hall will include two bays to accommodate up to four pieces of apparatus, a fully accessible elevator, dormitory and wellness space, and a dedicated decontamination area to clean gear after a call.

City officials said the hall is intended to improve emergency response times in the area and provide a critical resource during major earthquakes or floods.
