Nobody injured after overnight fire to a chalet on Mount Washington

A chalet on Mount Washington Alpine Resort caught fire early Wednesday morning.

Oyster River Fire Rescue said neighbours reported the building on fire at about 12:30 a.m. on April 29.

No one was inside the chalet when the fire started and no injuries were reported.

The fire comes as construction continues on a new fire hall on Mount Washington intended to improve emergency response times in the area.

Fire Chief Bruce Green said the damage may have been less significant if the fire hall had already been operational.

“Once we have the equipment on the hall, we still need firefighters to respond and interested members of the community can contact myself if they want to volunteer.”

Twenty firefighters attended the scene and two nearby chalets sustained minor damage.

The fire was knocked down at 2 a.m. Crews remained on scene mopping up until about 6 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
