Downtown Comox transit exchange to open Monday

Another new transit exchange in the Comox Valley will be ready to operate next week.

The downtown Comox exchange on Port Augusta Street at Comox Avenue will open Monday, May 11, said B.C. Transit.

The new exchange will increase bus capacity, improve the customer experience and enhance safety in the area.

It will be the second of five completed exchanges in the Comox Valley, with the North Island College exchange having opened in January.

The next locations to receive exchanges will be south Courtenay, downtown Courtenay and Oyster River.

Each exchange will include concrete bus bays to accommodate heavy-duty buses, improvements to pedestrian and road infrastructure, new bike racks and larger bus shelters.

The five exchanges were announced in February 2024 and received $8.8 million in funding from the Government of Canada, the Province of B.C. and the Comox Valley Regional District.
