Working the polls in the 2015 Federal election

The hours will be long, but the payoff will be worth it…and you’ll be helping out your community.

Elections Canada is looking for workers. October 19th marks the big day for politicians and Canadians across the country. It’s the 2015 Federal election.

Dorothy Sitek of Elections Canada says they’re looking for people to work at polling stations, right now primarily focusing on the North-Island Powell River riding, which includes areas like Campbell River, Port Hardy and Powell River.

Sitek adds a lot of positions are available, including being a poll clerk. She adds the compensation is well worth the long hours.

You can apply for a position online but Sitek mentions a few things to remember when thinking about applying for one of the jobs.

Sitek adds in case you were wondering, working at the polling station does not affect your ability to vote in this year’s election. She says workers can vote on their breaks.

Full details and information on voting in this year’s election, as well as working the polls, can be found at Elections Canada’s official web page.
