Transit commuters can expect delays near downtown Courtenay, and B.C. Transit said it’ll impact services downtown.
Starting today, upgrades to the intersection of Fifth Street and Cliffe Avenue will be done to improve safety, accessibility and traffic flow.
B.C. Transit said this will put a dent in service, and they’ll be informing the public of route changes.
“Buses won’t serve the downtown Courtenay exchange on Cliffe Avenue and other bus stops in the downtown core even with the intersection being open,” said B.C. Transit. “Detours will be in place during construction. Bus stops that are closed will have signage posted to indicate the next nearest bus stop.”
The crown corporation said riders should allow for more travel time, especially near the downtown exchange.
The intersection is expected to be closed Sunday to Friday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and construction is expected to last up to eight weeks, dependent on weather.
