CVRD offers tips for Comox Valley Kickoff

The Comox Valley Regional District is expecting a large turnout for the Comox Valley Kickoff event on Friday, June 12 to mark the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The CVRD is hosting a watch party at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds. With limited parking available, attendees are encouraged to use alternative transportation where possible.

“Please consider carpooling, cycling, or taking transit to help reduce parking demand,” the CVRD said in a statement. “Members of the Rapids Rugby youth teams will be assisting with parking operations throughout the day.”

Several nearby areas, including Vanier Drive, Headquarters Road and Schellinck Drive, will be off-limits for event parking. The CVRD said vehicles parked in those areas may be subject to enforcement.

A bike valet service provided by the Comox Valley Cycling Coalition will offer secure bicycle parking throughout the event.

“Donations will be gratefully accepted to support the Coalition’s cycling education, advocacy, and community programs,” said the CVRD.

Opening ceremonies begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After Canada’s match, a community celebration is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by a viewing of the United States versus Paraguay match beginning at 6 p.m.
