Upgrades to Robb Avenue coming as construction scheduled to start in July

Infrastructure improvements are coming to Robb Avenue in Comox.

The Town of Comox said construction on the Robb Avenue upgrade project will begin in July, with work taking place between Anderton Road and Aitken Road.

Chief administrative officer Jordan Wall said the upgrades will make Robb Avenue safer, more accessible and better connected for residents now and into the future.

“We know there will be short-term inconveniences, but the long-term improvements will benefit everyone who uses this corridor,” he said.

The project includes:

  • Installation of new concrete curb and gutter
  • Construction of a dedicated bike lane on the north side of Robb Avenue
  • Relocation of the sidewalk to the north side of the road to improve access to existing bus stops
  • Replacement of aging underground infrastructure, including water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains
  • Installation of communications conduit to support future fibre-optic services
  • Planting of new street trees to enhance the streetscape
  • Roadway improvements to better accommodate shared use by motorists and cyclists

Other work includes asphalt resurfacing on Heather Court and replacement of a double catch basin on Thistle Court.

Construction is expected to continue until November and may result in traffic delays and lane restrictions, temporary changes to pedestrian access routes, construction noise during working hours and short-term interruptions to utility services as connections are completed.

The project was awarded to Wacor Holdings Ltd., which will maintain access to homes and businesses and minimize disruptions where possible.
