Fire prohibition to remain in effect for the Town of Comox

Despite recent changes to fire restrictions in some areas of the Comox Valley, campfires remain prohibited in Comox.

The Town of Comox and the Comox Fire Protection District are keeping their campfire prohibition in effect. The only exception is the designated beach fire area east of the Point Holmes boat ramp for approximately 200 feet along the beach.

Beach fires are permitted only within the designated area. They must be contained within a rock ring and fully extinguished with water by 11 p.m.

Within the Town of Comox, all open burning and campfires are prohibited year-round under municipal regulations, regardless of changes to provincial campfire restrictions.

Campfires also remain prohibited within Electoral Area B and the Comox Fire Protection District because of local fire restriction bylaws.

The restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of wildfire, protect public safety and safeguard local parks, green spaces, neighbouring properties and natural areas.

Residents and visitors are asked to respect the prohibition and report unauthorized fires to the appropriate authorities.

Failure to comply with local fire regulations may result in enforcement action and fines.
