The City of Courtenay says contracts have been finalized for the new East Courtenay Fire Hall, with construction set to begin this summer.
The city says Kinetic Construction will lead construction of the new fire hall, which is expected to open by the end of 2027.
The facility is expected to improve emergency response times in a growing area of the city, increase volunteer firefighter capacity and operate as a fully electric, zero-carbon building.
The project’s estimated cost is $14 million, down from the original $14.7 million estimate after savings were identified during planning, design and procurement.
“This new hall means more volunteers from a growing part of the City, faster response for residents when it matters most, and a facility built to the highest seismic and training standards for firefighters in our community,” said Courtenay fire chief Kurt MacDonald. “We’ve been looking forward to this project for a long time.”
The new facility will be located at 220 Waters Place near Lerwick and Ryan roads.
