Comox firefighters deployed to help fight wildfires across the province

Comox Fire Rescue is continuing to assist with wildfire response efforts in B.C.’s Interior.

The department’s Type 6 structure protection wildland unit was deployed to the Boston Bar area July 20 and has since moved to the Clinton and 70 Mile House areas.

Fire Chief Gord Schreiner said he is proud of the firefighters serving on the deployment.

“These deployments are demanding, but they provide invaluable experience that strengthens our team and enhances our ability to respond to emergencies.”

The Type 6 wildfire truck is a compact, highly mobile apparatus equipped with a pump and water tank.

The unit is designed for use in challenging terrain and is staffed by three firefighters working alongside personnel from the B.C. Wildfire Service and municipal fire departments from across the province.

Comox Fire Rescue said it has responded to more than 20 wildfire incidents across the province over the past several years.

According to the department, firefighters typically work 12-hour shifts and spend up to 14 days on deployment, staying overnight in B.C. Wildfire Service camps.

When the crew returns home, members will clean, service and restock equipment to ensure it is ready for future emergency responses and additional deployment requests.
