Driver in critical condition following collision near Fanny Bay

Comox Valley RCMP say one person is in hospital in critical condition after a serious single-vehicle collision near Fanny Bay on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Police were called to a report of a collision on Highway 19 northbound at the Rosewall Creek Bridge shortly after 1:40 p.m.

“Upon arrival, responders located a vehicle that had left the roadway and come to rest in the creek below,” said RCMP in a statement. “The driver was attended to first by a bystander who provided first aid and then by fire and emergency health services before being airlifted to hospital.”

Police said the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

RCMP said speed and road conditions are being considered as contributing factors, but the investigation remains underway to determine what led to the collision.

“While speed and road conditions are currently being considered as contributing factors, the investigation remains ongoing to identify any additional elements and establish a clear sequence of events leading up to the crash,” said RCMP.

RCMP said there were no other occupants in the vehicle.
