The B.C. government has released its latest Drought and Water Scarcity Bulletin, with data through Sept. 3.
The report shows drought conditions have improved since last week, with East Vancouver Island now at Level 1 on the drought severity index. Level 5 is the most severe.
The region was at Level 2 last week.
West Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast are both at Level 0, indicating normal or wetter-than-normal conditions.
West Vancouver Island has remained at Level 0 for most of the summer, while the Sunshine Coast was at Level 2 last week.
The report says drought conditions have improved across the province following recent precipitation, cooler weather and shorter days.
It adds that streamflows along the South Coast remain below seasonal norms and notes reports of high water temperatures on Vancouver Island.
“Aquatic ecosystems and agricultural and drinking water supplies on southeast Vancouver Island are experiencing water scarcity concerns,” reads the report.
Forecasters say cooler temperatures should persist along the South Coast through the weekend, followed by a drying trend in most areas of the province next week.
