Ryan Road sidewalk upgrade project to begin mid-September

The City of Courtenay says work is set to begin this month on pedestrian improvements on Ryan Road.

The city says its Ryan Road Sidewalk Upgrade project will improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and connectivity between Back Road and Sandwick Road.

The project will add 350 metres of new sidewalk, which the city says will fill a gap in its active transportation network.

“This new sidewalk will offer an important connection for people walking and accessing transit in the area,” said Adam Pitcher, the City of Courtenay’s manager of capital projects. “By filling in this gap in the pedestrian network, the City is improving safety and accessibility while making it easier for residents to move between neighbourhoods and access nearby destinations.”

Construction is expected to begin in mid-September and last up to three months. Work will primarily take place at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. to ease traffic congestion.

One lane will be closed when work is underway, and the city does not anticipate any significant traffic impacts as a result of the project.
