The B.C. government has released its latest Drought and Water Scarcity Bulletin, with data up to Sept. 10.
The report shows no change locally from last week, with East Vancouver Island at Drought Level 1. Level 5 is the most severe.
West Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast remain at Level 0, indicating normal or wetter-than-normal conditions.
“Recent precipitation has improved streamflows, reducing drought levels in many watersheds across the southern mainland of the province,” said the report.
While cooler weather and increased precipitation have improved drought conditions locally in recent weeks, the report says aquatic ecosystems and agricultural and drinking water supplies in southeastern Vancouver Island continue to face water scarcity concerns.
Streamflows remain below seasonal norms in most areas, with reports of fish stranding and isolation in side channels and tributaries.
Provincewide, a cold front is expected to bring widespread showers and near- or below-normal temperatures to the northern half and southeast B.C. Unsettled conditions are expected to continue along the South Coast.
