Nicole Minions acclaimed to 2nd term as Comox mayor, 11 running for council

Comox residents will head to the polls next month for the municipal election, but they won’t be choosing a mayor.

Nicole Minions has been acclaimed to another term as mayor of Comox.

Minions, who was also acclaimed in the 2022 election, said the town has seen some major accomplishments over the past four years.

She cited securing a replacement for the Comox fire hall and acquiring the Newson Family Nature Park.

Minions said some challenges over the past four years include managing rising property taxes, an issue she said is not specific to Comox. She said the town needs to get a handle on how to pay for infrastructure upgrades, public safety and RCMP services.

“We really want to get a really good handle on what it is costing residents to get these services and make sure that we’re providing value as the local government,” said Minions.

Minions said working with regional and municipal partners will be a focus for the town over the next four years.

“Regional collaboration with the Comox Valley Regional District, other municipal governments, as well as K’omoks First Nation, is a top priority,” said Minions. “We get a lot more done when we’re working together and collaborating and communicating.”

Minions said other priorities include working with 19 Wing Comox on its planned expansion and maintaining the town’s core services.

She’s encouraging eligible Comox voters to cast their ballots Oct. 17, with 11 candidates running for six seats on Comox Town Council.

They are:

• Steve Blacklock
• Lisa Bourgeois
• Vivian Chislett
• Ken Grant
• Chris Haslett
• Jonathan Kerr
• Neil Ladell
• Jenn Meilleur
• Ruby Sidhu
• Maureen Swift
• Jessica Wegg
