Courtenay begins $6.6-million Braidwood Road upgrade

Infrastructure upgrades along Braidwood Road in Courtenay are underway, with preliminary work scheduled through Friday.

Crews will be on site from Oct. 26 to 30, with construction starting Nov. 2 and expected to continue into late spring.

The $6.6-million project will replace aging water, sewer and stormwater systems and rebuild sections of the road to support future growth.

Drivers can expect minor delays during preliminary work, followed by alternating single-lane traffic once crews reach Braidwood Road. Parking restrictions and construction noise are also expected.

The city said the work will include road improvements for cyclists and pedestrians, along with upgrades to the water main.

“Water, sanitary and storm systems along Braidwood Road are at the end of their service life and cannot keep up with demand from a growing community,” said a statement from the city. “This project will fully upgrade these systems and improve sections of the road to meet current and future needs.”

The city is asking people to follow posted signs and directions from traffic control personnel and stay clear of the construction zone.
