Sasquatch enthusiasts to gather at inaugural conference

By Stan Ashbee

This weekend, sasquatch enthusiasts will gather for the Vancouver Island Squatch Watch Conference Oct. 30 to Nov. 1.

It’s a chance to get your bigfoot on and listen to some of the most credited specialists talk about all things sasquatch.

The three-day event will be held at the Comox Valley Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay.

Presenters include Tom Sewid, Terrance N. James, Dr. Robert Alley, and Alex Solunac.

“Compass Magazine has had great interest and dialogue with many Indigenous artists and local experts regarding sasquatch on Vancouver Island,” said Compass Magazine Publisher Kiki Donaldson, who is organizing the event. “We thought it was time to bring that community together and share that information in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.”

This is an inaugural event, Donaldson added. “It highlights a market of all things sasquatch with some pretty powerful presenters.”

Is sasquatch, bigfoot, or yeti real? That’s the question so many people ask throughout the globe.

“Nobody has actually been able to come up with concrete evidence,” Donaldson noted. “These experts have great information for you to make your own choice and your own decision. It’s regarded in Indigenous culture as magical, mythical, and possibly even shapeshifting and time-shifting.”

Donaldson believes the conference will be interesting to see and listen to all the information from these experts.

“From an Indigenous point of view, from a doctoral point of view, and there’s a lot to be taken in,” Donaldson shared. “If you think you’ve seen sasquatch, if you think you’ve had the experience, this is the place to be.”

Squatch Watch is meant to be fun, but also for conference-goers to be respectful.

“We’re very appreciative of these presenters travelling from the Pacific Northwest. Some are coming from the Seattle area, and some are travelling from lower Vancouver Island,” said Donaldson. “Remember, everybody is being honoured and has an opinion at this conference.”
