Avoid the flu this season

It’s the time of year where the weather gets a little chilly…and you might find yourself getting a little stuffed up, or battling a cough.

Unfortunately, that means flu season is here. Dr. Charmaine Enns is with Island Health. She says every year brings a different impact to the general population’s health.

Enns adds influenza is different than getting your average cold or winter virus.

She says getting influenza also predisposes you to a bacterial pneumonia.

She adds you can get very sick with influenza but you don’t get that sick with regular winter viruses. Dr. Enns suggests you get a flu shot if you think you may be susceptible to the flu virus.
