Some people not heeding campfire ban

A campfire ban has been in place for all areas of the Coastal Fire Zone since the beginning of August, and The Coastal Fire Center says despite repeated warnings, some people on the island just don’t seem to be getting the message; No campfires!

Lynne Wheeler is with the Coastal Fire Center and says while most people are playing by the rules, some people need constant reminders.

She says it’s really not worth it, as lighting an illegal campfire comes with hefty consequences.

She adds it’s extremely frustrating when people don’t listen, and she warns there are plenty of agencies patrolling forests around the island, looking to put out illegal campfires.
