Fire training centre open house goes this weekend

The Courtenay Fire Department is opening the doors to its new training centre this weekend. Residents are invited to check out the W.A. Lane MacDonald Fire Training Centre on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

The training centre features a live-fire training building built entirely from sea containers, plus a training area circled by a built-to-scale city street, working fire hydrants, and space for driver training and pumper operator training.

The facility was named after long-time training officer and retired Courtenay Fire Department Captain Lane MacDonald.

The centre is located on Waters Place, off Lerwick Road in Courtenay, directly across from the entrance to the new Comox Valley Hospital under construction. Once on Waters Place, follow the gravel road which turns right before the water towers.
