Coroners Service identifies hiker who died in Strathcona Park

The BC Coroners Service has identified a hiker who died in Strathcona Park near Campbell River last weekend.

18-year-old Anders Jason Newman was originally from Cochrane, Alberta and most recently resided in Victoria.

Coroner Barb McLintock says Newman and six of his friends had been camping in the Bedwell Lake area. McLintock says the young man died after falling down a steep cliff.

McLintock says Newman’s family has been notified of his death and is asking for privacy at this time.
