City of Courtenay dismantling Aqua Dams

The City of Courtenay is dismantling its Aqua Dams.

The dams have been deployed along the Courtenay River since early December of last year.

City of Courtenay CAO David Allen says conditions are improving and reducing the risk of flooding. He says conditions they look at include King Tides and heavy rain. Allen says heavy rain isn’t forecast for the area in the foreseeable future.

The dams will be taken down today. Allen notes that the dams can be quickly re-deployed, should conditions change. The single-lane closure on the Old Island Highway between Ryan Road and Headquarters Road will remain in place until the Aqua Dam has been removed.
