Comox Valley helping out Syrian refugees
A number of groups in the Comox Valley are working to support Syrian refugees arriving in the community.
Colleen Hanley says one family from Syria has arrived in the community. She says five committees, most associated with churches, are working to privately sponsor more families.
Hanley says the committees work with the families for a year and help them out with making medical appointments, getting medical insurance, registering their kids and school and help them adjust to life in the community.
Hanley says there is work going on right now to figure out how best to pull together the various resources in the community to help the new arrivals.
