The City of Courtenay is hosting workshops this week focusing on plans for the future of the downtown core. The first meeting takes place tonight.

Director of Development Services Ian Buck says staff will focus on 6 main themes, including improvements on 5th street, creating main meeting places in the downtown, development sites opportunities and programs, and parks and trail connections in the downtown area.

Buck notes some of the ideas were brought up at community meetings held last fall.

Buck maintains that Courtenay Council is highly committed to downtown revitalization. He says the goal is to see change and have community involvement be an integral part of that.

The first meeting is tonight from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the Native Sons Hall.

Tomorrow – you can see the designers’ work in progress, with Thursday’s session featuring a presentation by Michael Von Hausen of MVH Urban Planning and Design. For a full list and schedule of the events this week, visit the city’s website.
