Students from across the region were at GP Vanier in Courtenay this weekend for the Skills BC Vancouver Island North Competition.

Event organizer Randy Grey says students compete in different trades including architecture, drafting, auto service, and cabinet making. He says they’re given a problem to solve, and judges take a look at what solutions students come up with and select the best one.

The top, gold-medal winning student goes on to the Provincial competition in Abbotsford. The winner of the Provincials goes onto Nationals in June.

Grey says the event would not have been possible without the support of the teacher volunteers who hosted the events.
