BC Ferries’ vessels set for upgrades

BC Ferries has announced that the Spirit of British Columbia and Spirit of Vancouver Island vessels are getting some upgrades.

Once they’re completed, the ships will be able to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Ferries VP of Engineering Mark Wilson says the two ships are the company’s most important vessels.

Wilson says the upgrades will see some cost savings for the company and ferry users.

He notes the company has finished upgrading other ships in their fleet this year.

Remontowa Ship Repair Yard out of Poland has been awarded the contract to perform the upgrades.
