A section of the Courtenay Riverway has reopened.
The trail area between 19th and 20th streets has been closed since last September, and after repair work from crews…the trail is back open for use.
City spokesperson Nancy Gothard says this is great news for trail users.
However, she notes there is still some work that needs to be done on sides of the trail.
Gothard notes that work should be completed by the fall. She asks that residents stay off the new vegetation in the area.
Gothard says the land was previously on private property, but owenership is now being transferred to the city of Courtenay.
