Local teachers president explains rationale behind teachers vote

So why hold a vote to take down BC teachers picket lines for binding arbitration…when the BC Government has already rejected binding arbitration?

We put that question to Nick Moore, President of the Comox District Teachers Association.

But many political pundits and labour experts suggest Wednesday’s teachers vote will have a minimal impact on the ongoing teachers dispute. Education Minister Peter Fassbender says he feels like he is in the 1993 Hollywood film “Groundhog Day”, where actor Bill Murray relives the same day, day after day. Moore says this vote, is all about putting pressure on the government, adding the BCTF is ready to head back to the bargaining table.

BC teachers continue their strike action, with no sign the two sides are even close to coming to terms on a new collective agreement.
