Funding for emergency programs across BC

The Province is funding a series of programs to better prepare residents in case of an emergency.

Over $160,000 will go towards the Fire Chiefs Association of BC.

Minister of Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto says that will help the group create a database for emergency management and fire service resources.

Yamamoto says funds will also go towards the Association of Professional Engineers and Geo-scientists of BC for flood plain hazard mapping and flood assessment practices.

Monies will also go towards a joint research project between Emergency Management BC, the Global Earthquake Model Foundation and the Earth Sciences Sector of Natural Resources Canada. They will be conducting earthquake risk assessments.

Yamamoto says it’s important to always be prepared for an emergency.

Yamamoto says the hope is that these initiatives will not only mitigate risks from disasters, but also help save lives.
