Mounties are urging cyclists to invest in good-quality locks to help deter thefts.
Comox Valley RCMP responded to seven thefts of bikes in areas across Courtenay over the last seven days.
Constable Rob Gardner says several of the thefts were unusual because the thieves took the time to cut the bike locks. He notes that if you’re looking to buy a lock, pick one up that is cut-resistant or cut-proof.
Gardner says it’s also a good idea to record the bike’s serial number, which can help the police get it back to you if it is found.
