International students in class, local students out of luck!

Quite the controversy in the Comox Valley on Principals and Vice-Principals teaching international students…angering local teachers.

But a few months back it was actually valley teachers handling teaching duties for the international program, while the strike was well underway. So we asked local teachers president Nick Moore if that weakens their position on the issue, with teachers now expressing shock and outrage about it…

Lets sit down at the bargaining table and get a deal done…That from local teachers president Nick Moore on BC’s striking teachers voting overwhelmingly in favour of binding arbitration to end the strike that’s kept kids out of school for weeks…

Meanwhile as the education dispute drags on BC’s education minister is ruling out dipping into the government’s rainy day fund to settle with teachers. Peter Fassbender says other, more important, costs have limited what the government has stashed away for an emergency.

Fassbender says he still hopes for a negotiated deal but the two sides have not had any talks since June.
He is also once again, ruling out going to arbitration. Fassbender says binding arbitration would lead to unacceptable tax increases….he claims the two sides are still too far apart on wages and benefits.
