City of Courtenay updating tree bylaw

The city of Courtenay is looking for public feedback as it updates its tree bylaw.

Environmental Planner Nancy Gothard says the current bylaw is about 10 years old.

She notes that trees provide a function for the community, including shade, which can be important during the hot summer months.

She says there is a growing recognition of the importance of the urban forest for things like storm water management and air quality.

The city will be holding two information sessions next week.

There is also a survey available on the city’s website and in hard copy at city hall.
