The Buckley Bay Substation is complete.
BC Hydro has been working on the $32-million substation for the last 5 years.
Minister of Energy and Mines, Bill Bennett, says the demand for electricity on Vancouver Island is growing at more than 1% a year.
He notes than an investment in infrastructure will help meet that demand. He says the more substations you have in an area, the more reliability you also have in that area.
Bennett says crews will spend the next few months connecting the substation into the hydro grid.
