Short-term facility found for World Parrot Refuge

The organization that has taken over the operations of the World Parrot Refuge in Coombs has secured a short term lease with the City of Nanaimo to use the old SPCA facility to house the animals.

After the previous owner of the facility passed away the buildings fell into disrepair and the BC SPCA stepped in to deal with complaints surrounding the facility and birds.

The Greyhaven Bird Society’s Jan Robson says they are in the process of finding new owners for the birds and have also been reuniting some birds with their former owners.

Robson says the goal is to have the birds moved out of the refuge by August 1st either to new homes or to the SPCA facility in Nanaimo.
