Canada Post union calls for 30-day truce

The President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for Campbell River and the North Island is hopeful the two sides will reach a deal.

The corporation has set the lock-out deadline at 12:01 Monday, but says it would agree to a cooling off period, if the union agrees to binding arbitration.

Ryan Knight says he’s fairly confident a deal will get done.

Knight notes that postal workers are paid out of the earnings from the crown corporation, not through taxes. He says Canada Post is doing well financially, so it doesn’t make sense for it to be so focused on making cuts.
