Work begins on Anderton Retaining Wall

Work on the Anderton Retaining Wall in Courtenay has begun. Crews will be installing a rocked structure to reinforce the existing wall.

Director of Engineering Services for the City of Courtenay, Leslie Hatch says the first week will involve set up, followed by rock work in the river.

Hatch says kayakers and tubers will still be able to use the river, but are asked to stay closer to the Lewis Park side of the river. She ads that there will be some detours and access restrictions while the work is underway.

Hatch says because the work must be done at low-tide, it will be ongoing 24 hours a day.

She says steps will be taken to try and minimize the impact of the construction, but some disruption will be unavoidable. The work is scheduled to wrap up by August 15.
