Stats Can says record Canadians took part in census

Statistics Canada is thanking Canadians for a record-setting census.

Director General of the Census Program Marc Hamel says 98.4% of Canadians responded to the survey. He says they were pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm shown towards the census itself.

He notes that Canadians are now better informed as to what the exercise is and the importance of taking part in the census.

Hamel adds that Canadians also set a world record – with more than two-thirds opting to complete their survey online.

The first round of data will be released in February, which will include the new population count.
