Next steps in the 2016 Census

Workers at Statistics Canada are in the process of compiling data from a record number of census forms.

Director General of the Census Program, Marc Hamel says the response rate this year was 98.4% – higher than both 2006 and 2011 responses.

He says the first round of data will be released in February, which will include population and dwelling numbers.

Hamel says census data is used for a variety of governmental funding decisions, including provincial transfer payments, and how electoral ridings are divided up.
