Cumberland looking to make illegal suites legal

The Village of Cumberland is looking to bring illegal suites into compliance.

Mayor Leslie Baird says they know there are illegal suites in the village and they want to give owners a chance to come forward.

Baird says a six month grace period will begin in October to allow those with illegal suites to come forward to get inspections to find out what needs to be done to bring those suites into compliance.

Baird says this is something that happens in many communities.

Baird says it’s important to bring the suites into compliance so tenants are living in safe conditions and suites are up to code.
