The executive director of Integrity BC says the increase in the minimum wage isn’t enough to make up for the increases in the cost of living.
British Columbia’s minimum wage goes up today (Thursday, September 15) by 40 cents to $10.85 an hour. Dermod Travis says wages have not kept up with the rising cost of living in BC.
Travis says along with increases in rent, British Columbians have seen increases to MSP premiums, and utilities like hydro and natural gas, all of which make it harder for those making minimum wage to make ends meet.
Travis says a $15 minimum wage isn’t necessarily the answer to the problems facing low-income earners. He says the province needs to do something about the rising costs of living.
