Distracted driving a concern for Comox Valley RCMP

The Comox Valley RCMP have handed out 41 tickets for cell phone use while driving this month alone, and Constable Don Sinclair says, that doesn’t even scratch the surface of the problem.

Constable Sinclair says police were out in force on Monday, conducting road stops and looking for people using their cell phones, and he says in some cases, they didn’t have to look very far.

Constable Sinclair also helps clear up some common misconceptions regarding cell phone use while driving.

The RCMP advise that if you can’t resist the temptation of using your phone, put in the trunk, or invest in a hands free device, like a blue tooth.

According to police, there were 88 deaths in BC attributed to distracted driving between 2009 and 2013, an average of 12 happening right here on Vancouver Island.
