Fire services at Mount Washington referendum passes

Mount Washington will be getting its own fire protection service.

The official results are in from this weekend’s referendum.

CVRD spokesperson James Warren says fire protection equipment will be put in place at the Mountain and support staff equipment would be provided by another department in the Comox Valley.

He says next steps include putting together a financial plan.

Last year in February, 3 cabins were destroyed at Mount Washington because of a fire.

They were left to burn because of the lack of fire protection service on the Mountain.
