Upgrades to Puntledge River system

BC Hydro is upgrading the warning system in the Puntledge River network.

Spokesperson Stephen Watson says Hydro is spending $8 million to upgrade the water gauges and sirens. He notes the new system will be wireless – which will allow for communication across the whole water channel.

He says this will also improve public safety and people will be able to better hear the warning siren. It will also lead to better understanding of the flows in the system.

The work is underway with the goal of having the new system up and running fully in early 2017.
