Medical marijuana dispensaries could be coming to Cumberland

The Village of Cumberland is looking to finalize a new policy on medical marijuana dispensaries. Council has given three readings to a bylaw to regulate the dispensaries in the village.

Mayor Leslie Baird says council heard a lot of feedback from the public on the benefits to patients that medical marijuana can have. She says it’s widely used for cancer patients, as well as veterans.

Baird says they are looking into staffing, location and hours of operation for a dispensary. She says they will also follow up with a ticket procedure – so, if the dispensary does not obey all local rules, they will be ticketed. The bylaw will need to come back before council for final adoption.
