Valley teachers rejoice after Supreme Court decision

The President of the Comox District Teachers Association is ecstatic over a Supreme Court decision to allow educators to negotiate class size and composition.

The decision ends a court battle that started in 2002 – when legislation stripped teachers’ bargaining rights over class size and composition.

Nick Moore says this is a huge deal for parents, students and teachers in the region.

The province has lost over 3500 teaching jobs since 2012. Moore says he isn’t sure if lost jobs will be restored, but he is optimistic.

Moore says ideal class sizes range from 18 to 30 students, depending on the grade.
