Courtenay Fire responds to late night crashes

The Courtenay Fire Department was kept busy Monday night with a pair of crashes that brought down hydro lines.

Fire Chief Don Bardonnex says the first one happened on Headquarters, near Merville Road. He notes the driver lost control of his car and hit a power pole.

Bardonnex says the other incident happened on lake Trail Road in Courtenay.

He says both crashes were unusual, as they both happened on straightaways.

Bardonnex adds the first driver left the scene on his own, while the second driver was tended to by ambulance at the scene.
